overall thoughts

Positions is an album that seems to get better every time i listen. while the lyrics are very superficial and at some points just super unserious, the instrumentals are so beautifully crafted, it’s almost a humorous juxtaposition. each song is sonically high quality and the album has pretty good cohesion.

there are a few tracks in the middle that are a little meh and forgettable. they’re not bad and i wouldn’t skip the tracks if they came on, but i definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to play them or play them on repeat. the songs that fall in this category are ‘off the table’, ‘six thirty’ and ‘my hair’.

i was super surprised with the track ‘safety net’, with the other guest artist it felt like they were taking away from the song, but ty dolla sign was very complementary, especially when they sing together. while it’s not the most cohesive album ever, the vision is there. overall it’s super fun, relatable, with small moments of raw emotional clarity.
